About Lauren Elizabeth Brian
Lauren Elizabeth Brian, 23 years old, of Maineville, Ohio and formerly of Elyria, died on June 28, 2008 at Indiana University and Purdue University Research Hospital after battling an illness for two years. She was born in Elyria on May 20, 1985 and lived there for 18 years.
Lauren was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, and she attended Seton Hill University for two years in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. In the fall of 2005, she moved to Cincinnati and transferred to Northern Kentucky University.
When she became ill, Lauren was one semester away from receiving her Bachelor’s degree from Northern Kentucky University to become a teacher in Spanish. During her college years, Lauren was a member of the Future Educators of America and served as a staff writer for the school newspaper.
Lauren was a “hero” for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, helping raise money for research. Inspired by Lauren’s bravery, Elyria High School sponsored a bone marrow drive to expand the bone marrow bank.
Throughout most of her life, Lauren was an athlete. She competed on the softball team at Seton Hill University for two years and Elyria High School for three years. Lauren also played ASA Junior Olympic softball for several teams, which includes the Ohio Emeralds and the West Side Slam.
While attending Elyria High School, Lauren was a section leader and a saxophone player for the pride of EHS, the Pioneer Marching Band. She was also a member of the National Honor Society.
Some of Lauren’s favorite past times included playing softball, playing the saxophone, playing video games, watching movies, and beating anyone who tried to compete against her in “Scene It.” In addition, Lauren loved to travel to Kelley’s Island, where her family had a summer home.
